Additional financial support on the way to professional qualifications

Anyone who takes part in a subsidized, graduation-oriented further training can not only receive an education voucher for the further training costs under certain conditions, but also further training allowance and a further training bonus. In this way, the path to professional qualifications is better financially supported.

Vocational training or retraining is often an important step towards new perspectives, professional security and better opportunities on the job market.

In order to make this path easier, there are additional support benefits in Germany for certain further training courses with a professional qualification.

This includes the monthly further training allowance and the further training bonus for passed exams. Which funding is suitable will be examined in a personal consultation with the employment agency or the job center.

since January 1, 2025 the decision and support is also made for customers of the job center via the employment agency.

Our tip:

The better you can explain why exactly this training improves your job opportunities, the higher your chances of success.

The AFBW – Academy for Vocational Training supports interested parties in better understanding funding opportunities and planning the next steps more clearly. We help you to better classify suitable training paths, to prepare documents and requirements, to prepare you for the consultation with the responsible body and to find the right measure for your professional goal. It is important: The final decision on funding, education vouchers, further training allowances and further training bonuses is always made by the responsible employment agency after individual examination.

What is the training allowance?

The training allowance is a monthly subsidy of 150 euros. It is paid if you are taking part in a subsidized degree-oriented further training, for example in retraining, a partial qualification with an occupational connection or a preparatory course for the external examination.

01

What is the continuing education bonus?

The further education bonus is an additional financial recognition for successfully passed exams within a subsidized degree-oriented further training. 1,000 euros are possible for passing an intermediate exam or the first part of a stretched final exam. 1,500 euros are planned for passing the final exam.

02

What does the education voucher take over?

If the funding is approved, the education voucher can, among other things, cover course fees, learning materials, work clothing, examination fees, travel expenses, childcare costs and, if necessary, costs for external accommodation and meals. The consultation will clarify which costs can be covered in your case.

03

For which training courses does this apply?

The funding does not apply to any further training, but to subsidized qualification-oriented measures that lead to or prepare for a recognized professional qualification. In addition, measures and providers must be approved for further training support.

Who can receive further education allowance?

Continuing education allowance can be paid if someone has a subsidized graduation-oriented further training participates. Whether the specific measure meets the requirements is examined in the consultation.

The training allowance is currently 150 euros per month.

A premium can be paid if, as part of a subsidized degree-oriented further training, a Midterm exam, the First part of an extended final exam or the Final exam is successfully passed. The height is 1,000 euros respectively 1,500 euros.

The technical instructions of the Federal Agency provide that both the further training allowance and the further training bonus are treated as compulsory services if the requirements are met and No separate application required is. It is best to clarify how the processing takes place in your case in the consultation.

Usually no. Further training allowance and further training bonus refer to Funded graduation-oriented further training. For coaching offers, other funding channels are more likely to be considered, for example the AVGS, if the respective measure is suitable and approved for this purpose.

The first step is a consultation with the employment agency or the job center. There it is checked whether the requirements for a subsidized further training are met. If this is the case, an education voucher can be issued. This applies for a limited period of time and must be submitted before the start of the selected measure.
